The Italians are very warm-hearted people and will always praise you for making the effort to speak their language, even if its only Buon Giorno.” Many of them can speak a little english if you are struggling with the language. In my experience, many Italians will tell you that their english is not good and that they only have ‘high school english’ and then understand most, if not all, of what you say to them in english!
They are very family orientated and you will find that the grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins etc often stay in the same village, sometimes even in the same villa/apartment block. Many of the businesses around Lake Como are family owned and are passed down through the generations. There is a strong community feeling around the lake.
