Lake Como, Italy has all the ingredients to make for the perfect holiday.

The Statale 36 road still remains closed between Bellano and Abbadia Lariana due to a rockslide in the locality of Pino di Varenna late this morning. Some nearby residents were evacuated for safety reasons.

Traffic can use the alternative route of the SP72 lakeside road although traffic is slow moving due to the sheer volume of vehicles.  Vehicles coming from Varenna heading to Abbadia can only drive until the motorway section at Abbadia  and then take the SP72 road. Vehicles coming from Sondrio can only drive as far as Bellano and then take the SP72 road.

The ANAS along with the fire brigade are currently working to clear the rockslide and re-open the Statale 36 although timescales are not yet known.
