Lake Como, Italy has all the ingredients to make for the perfect holiday.

Train

Travelling to Lake Como via Train is a fab way to get to your holiday destination.  Whether travelling from the south of Italy or crossing through Europe you are sure to witness breathtaking views whilst experiencing the most  relaxing of all methods of transport.

Lake Como has train stations at the following locations:

  • Como
  • Lecco
  • Varenna
  • Colico

There are four railway stations in Como; Como Nord Borghi, Como Nord Lago, Como Nord Camerlata and Como Nord San.Giovanni. The two most commonly used by visitors/tourists are; Como San Giovanni and Como Lago Nord.

Como S. Giovanni, located in Piazzale San Gottardo, is where the trains from Lugano, Bergamo and Milan Linate stop. Local buses, including the C10 and C20 for the western side of the lake, pick up passengers outside the station.
Como Lago Nord is located in Piazza Giacomo Matteotti across the road from Como’s bus station, from which the C10 and C20 set off. You arrive here from Milan Malpensa if you change at Saronno.
There are two separate train lines from Milan to Como;
Trenitalia line -(Italian State Railways) which uses the Como San Giovanni station which is on the international Milan-Chiasso line. The Trenitalia website lists both service but it is not easy for an outsider to make it out (a tip: non-Trenitalia stations are IN CAPS).
Ferrovie Nord Milano line -which has several stations. The end of the line is ‘Como Nord Lago’ (as it is right on the lake front and is only 3 minutes walk to the Brunate cable car. The railway extends beyond the lake, south to Bergamo and Milan and northwards to Tirano where you can pick up the ‘glacier express’ to St Moritz.
