Accommodation Many hotels in and around Lake Como can accommodate wheelchair access, please take a look at the following link for a list of hotels and description of facilities: http://www.traveleurope.it/hotel-accessible-for-handicapped/lake-como.htlm http://www.lodging-world.com/disabledroomsearch.it._._.lake_como.htmlAlbergo del Duco Como has wheelchair access and disabled facilities. Ferries The ferry company for the italian lakes (www.navigazionelaghi.it) kindly replied to an enquiry regarding wheelchair access on their ferries/boats and have stated that the majority of their boats (including car-ferries) that make-up part of their fleet can accommodate wheelchair users. However there may be some difficulty for wheelchair users embarking on the hydrofoils (the fast service boat)as there are some outdoor steps to go up. The longer boat trips departing from Como to Lenno, Tremezzo, Bellagio, Menaggio, Varenna and Colico branch normally use larger boats but only during the spring and summer periods from 29th March to 3rd October 2010 and also catamaran, these are wheelchair accessible and have toilets suitable for disabled people. Buses ASF Autolinee buses in and around Como state that 70% of their buses can transport people with motor disabilities but at the moment cannot guarantee a steady service since they are not well distributed among the lines. For further info click here Towns Some of the towns that are more accommodating for wheelchair access are; Como, Lecco, Menaggio as these have wide promenades and more space, Tremezzo is ok in parts but the pavement is inconsistent going from wide to narrow with high kerbs at sections. Along the main lakeside area of Tremezzo is fine.
