When meeting someone for the first time, a handshake is acceptable but in Italy it is normal to kiss each cheek. Please remember to use Signore/Signora (Mr/Mrs) along with the surname unless you have been asked to call them by their first name and if an Italian associate wishes to hug you, don't pull away/get offended, embrace him/her in return. Finally, never point with your index finger and pinky finger at the same time as it is considered extremely rude manners in Italy. |
