Miuccia Bianchi Prada (born Maria Bianchi) was born in 1949 in Milan. She is an italian fashion designer and entrepreneur and has a Ph.D in Political Science.
Mario Prada, the grandfather of Miuccia, founded Prada in Milan in 1914. The Prada label evolved in 1999 and transformed it into the fashion house recognized today. It also has the less expensive Miu Miu apparel line.
Prada specialises in clothing, shoes, luggage and leather accessories as well as fragrances for men and women. It is considred as one of the most influential clothing designers in the fashion industry. The label is known for its opulence and quality, and is widely regarded as a status symbol. Like numerous other luxury brands, Prada battles against counterfeiting and ensures authenticity only from its official boutiques (found globally) and online store.
Competition for Prada includes, but is not limited to, the following high-fashion houses: Christian Dior, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Giorgio Armani and Gucci.
To date, Prada has over 200 stores worldwide.
