Lugano is a in the south of Switzerland, in the Italian-speaking canton of Ticino, which borders Italy. The city lies on Lake Lugano which is spread across the border between Switzerland and Italy.

In recent years Lugano has attracted a number of celebrities, entertainers and successful sports people and is now known as the “Monte Carlo of Switzerland.”

Following the Second World War,  Lugano experienced a period of exponential growth in banking activities which led to it placing itself as the third financial centre of Switzerland, with over 100 banking institutions present in the town (this happened mainly through the 1960’s and 1970’s and was also due to an abundant flow of capital from nearby Italy.)  Lugano is the home of the faculties of informatics, economics, and communication sciences.
