Lake Como, Italy has all the ingredients to make for the perfect holiday.

Griante to Rogaro Walk

This is a lovely tranquil walk which is relatively easy (although a bit of a steep incline initially). It is a suitble walk for children to go on. You can begin this walk from either Griante or Tremezzo but we have decided to guide you from Griante (as this is often a Sunday stroll for us and the children). It takes approximately 1.5 hours, maybe a little longer if you need to catch your breath after walking up the steep road on Via San Martino behind Griante).

From the lakeside take one of the roads that leads up into the village of Griante; via Independenza, via Poncione, via Mazzini or via Roma. Follow the signs for San Martino Church which you will see signposted throughout the village. You will then reach an area where you can see the path that takes you up towards San Martino Church to the right, one narrow track that leads ahead and a wider road to your left (Via San Martino). Take the Via San Martino road to your left that snakes up a steep hill (be careful as there are no paths and there is traffic on this road although not that busy). This is a pretty steep hill to walk up so have a rest when you need to.

When you reach the top of this hill, the road levels out onto a plateau that overlooks the lake to your left and mountains to your right. The view is spectacular so be sure to take your camera with you.  It is a relaxing walk as it is very quiet in this area (it is not that busy with traffice, the odd car). Follow this main road which lies in between fields and eventually you come to a residential area, Rogaro (which is situated above Tremezzo). You will pass by some lovely restaurants (which of course you can go into if you are feeling peckish). There is also a very small Baroque church in this area which has a carved statue of the Black Madonna.

The road from the ancient settlement of Rogaro starts to descend with many twists and bends towards Tremezzo. You will eventually reach a small bridge at the bottom of this road. The road to the left of this bridge takes you to Tremezzo and turning to the right at this point takes you towards Viano, Volesio, Volesio Intignano and also Mezzegra. At this bridge take the turning to the left, this will take you down into Tremezzo where you will then arrive at a junction onto the main lakeside road. Turn left here and you will be on your way back towards Cadenabbia/Griante (past the terracotta building of the La Darsena restaurant). If you turn right at this point, you will be heading towards the large park (Parco Maier) in Tremezzo and then onto the village of Mezzegra.
