Gourmets welcome - Asparagus Festival at Rogaro |
|

Every year on the third Sunday in May, the people of Rogaro, a small village between Tremezzo and Bellagio, celebrate the local harvest of a delicacy – Asparagus. In 2012 this wonderful event will take place on the 20th of May.
To celebrate the day of the Asparagus and to thank for the good yield, a special morning mass will be held in the church of the Madonna nera, the black Madonna. The rest of the day is dedicated to the joy of tasting the various ways of preparing Asparagus. Local restaurants, bars or stands in the village square will offer a great variety of dishes with Asparagus and other typical products from the region.
Enjoy!

Stay where you are on the 25th of April – busy day on Lake Como |
|
The 25th of April is a big festive event in Italy to celebrate the anniversary of Italy’s liberation from Nazi-Fascism. Every year many Italians use this public holiday to make short trips with family and friends. Due to the lake’s vicinity to the congested urban area of Milan, large numbers of day trippers come here to relax, take boat tours, make picnics and enjoy the various sights of the area. The rather narrow streets of Lake Como tend to easily jam with traffic on days like this.
We recommend everyone who doesn’t have to go to Lake Como or leave from there on the 25th of April to stay where they are. Rather than being blocked in traffic we suggest you take it slow or how the Italians say: Enjoy the “Dolce far’ niente” (sweet idleness).
Have a great day J

Get ready – the season of the “sagra” has started |
|
A “sagra” is a kind of folk festival Italians celebrate, preferably during summer time, dedicated to traditional food, local artisanry, music or patron saints.
Driving through the little villages or just along Via Regina placards announce already numerous events. Although the festivities dedicated to food specialties are probably those that are most understandable for foreigners, also on a “sagra” in honor of a saint, simple but tasty and typical food is provided, one can stroll within the historic center or the lanes and immerse in the crowd. Often little sales booths offer their products. Some music and the typical Italian cheerfulness can be expected.
We recommend you to check out the following two events both on June 26th: Sagra di “San Giovanni” at Bellagio. This events takes place in the district of San Giovanni and is best reached by car, coming from the Eastern shore or by ferry boat and then by car, coming from the western shore of the lake. Fireworks at the Isola Comacina to honor “San Giovanni”. The fireworks can be watched from the waterside or directly from the island itself.

The events is always crowned with the parade of the winners on the public day, traditionally the Sunday. It is also the public that decides which cars wins the “Coppa d’Oro”.
