Continuous snowfall causes major traffic problems |

 What started as a winter fairytale turned out to be a problem for many drivers and travellers. On Monday, after several hours of continuous snowfall, numerous traffic jams were reported from Milan up to the North of Lake Como. Snowploughs on the western branch of Lake Como kept the roads accessible for visitors and residents whilst in Milan trains were unable to leave the station and commuters were caught in traffic for many hours due to the heavy snowfall. At Milan-Malpensa, the biggest airport in Lombardy, many outgoing flights were cancelled and only incoming flights were permitted.
