Lake Como, Italy has all the ingredients to make for the perfect holiday.

The foranea dam has been reopened, apart from the last tract, after the motor vessel Orione crashed forcefully into it just after 10am on Sunday morning.

Six people were hurt, but thankfully their injuries were only minor ones: three crew members and the others were tourists on the dam. Technicians from the comune did an initial inspection of the dam but a definitve prognosis of the damage caused by the impact of the vessel will only be possible once a frogman inspection has been carried out. The underwater technicians will check the state of the dam underneath to evaluate the stability of its foundations. It is expected that the Lake Como Navigazione will bear the cost of the foranea dam repairs. However, as explained by councillor Fulvio Carodanna, the comune will first have to pay the money out in advance. The Navigazione, for its part, will carry out an inquest to shed light on the cause of the accident. The most likely cause is technical failure which would have rendered the vessel incontrollable.
