Crottos are rustic and charming restaurants carved into the mountains around Lake Como. They are famous for their simple yet tasty dishes. The smoked meat and aged cheese served as starters are stored inside cellars that were carved into the mountain. A nice plus of “typical” Crottos are the small prices for big portions of tasteful dishes. There is a limited variety of dishes on offer such as: polenta with cheese, homemade gnocchi, ribs and salsicce served with a strong red wine and topped off by a crostata but be rest assured you will not leave these restaurants feeling hungry! The cosy atmosphere of the Crotto is created by the large pieces of wooden furniture and small stoves which makes you feel at home and lets you forget time in the best possible way. |
