Don Luigi Guanella Museum

This museum is dedicated to Don Luigi Guanella who was born in 1842 (one of thirteen children) and who devoted his life to those people who needed him most.  Although his family were poor , they were strong in their religious beliefs and practices.  Don Luigi Guanella entered the seminary when he was 12 years old and was ordained in 1866. He assisted Don Bosco (famous for his care of homeless children) from 1875 until 1878.

Italy was in a state of political unrest during most of Father Guanella’s lifetime but he continued with his charity work and for those who needed him; the homeless, the poor, orphans and handicapped.  He founded two religious orders; the Servants of Charity and the Daughters of St. Mary of Providence.  Both of these groups still exist in Italy today (as well as in other countries).

Father Guanella died in 1915, but the church recognized that he devoted his life to those who needed him most and he was beatified in 1964.
