For citizens of EU countries a valid passport (coming from UK & Ireland) or from mainland European countries an identity card is all that is needed. You are entitled to stay for up to 90 days. Citizens of USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand require only a valid passport. Visas are required for stays of 90 days or more. Contact your country’s Italian Embassy.

Free exchange of non duty-free goods for personal use is allowed between EU countries. Those from non-EU countries should refer to their home country’s regulation organisation for a current complete list of import restrictions.

Currency restrictions – tourists may bring an unlimited amount of Italian or foreign currency into the country. On departure you must declare any currency beyond the equivalent of €12,500, so it is wise to declare sums exceeding this amount when you arrive.
