If you have decided to drive to Italy from the UK/Ireland, you need to allow for tolls on French, Swiss, German and Italian motorways. You will need the following for driving in Italy:

  1. Your international driving licence or a valid national one
  2. Car registration documents.
  3. Copy of your insurance documents
  4. National identity sticker for your car
  5. Headlamp deflectors
  6. Red warning triangle in case of a breakdown.
  7. Nerves of steel!

Ensure that you are covered by your insurance company for driving abroad (a green insurance card; an extension to your ordinary insurance, is not compulsory but advisable in case of an accident).
