The Lake Como area has a rich source of natural water which comes from the surrounding mountains. The tap water here is safe to drink but you will also find that each village has a source of spring water (a tap located somewhere in or on outskirts of the village). You often see the locals carrying their crate of empty water bottles with them which they take to be filled up at the local village source of water; in Griante there is a tap located beside the stream (and down 3/4 steps) on the last curve of Via Indipendenza before you arrive at the junction onto Via Provinciale Regina.
It is recommended that you only take the water from the local village tap and do not drink directly from any of the mountain streams as there is a strong possibility that the water could contain agricultural wastes, parasites or other unfriendly organisms. |
